  The IRES-8 Colleagues came together for an opening conference in Beijing in 2015. The opening conference was held in Beijing and the main discussions centred around the following;  Setup project     objectives, outputs, management structure, Budget/suggested mobility budget breakdown, Determine    the cohort timings for secondment researchers

The aims and objectives of the project were discussed and agreed and this saw the beginning of the exciting process of supporting researchers in their condment to one of four partner organisations in China;

Tsinghua University / Beijing Jiaotong / North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) /  State Grid

 1st April 2016 – IRES-8 EV Seminar, Beijing Jiaotong University

  On 1st April 2016, IRES-8 successfully hosted a seminar in Beijing Jiaotong University. Project members from both EU and Chinese institutions delivered lectures to an audience of 80 students. Presentations included;

'Research on Charging Service Pricing Policies of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations with Photovoltaic Power, Analysis' and 'The impact of EVs and Heat Pumps on Low Voltage Feeders' and 'Impact of EV Charging on Power System Plant'.

Network Meeting : October 2016, Split
The first network meeting in Croatia was very successful. A lecture workshop was held by UNIZG-FER for the MSc students, (potential PhD researchers) to introduce the IRES-8 project. The workshop was well attended and helped to raise interest among students. A project meeting was held at the national CIGRE conference, which provided an opportunity to establish connection with local industry.

Selection Progress to Date

 By the end of the 2nd reporting period, a total of 9 EU researchers have been selected to join the IRES-8 project. This will deliver 50 researcher months. Five mobility researchers (18 researcher months) have been to China within the two year reporting period.

Future Mobility Researchers

At the start of the third reporting period, three more mobility researchers are preparing for their departure to Beijing in March 2018. There are also potential applications from a minimum of a further five researchers who are keen to spend time in Beijing working with our partners. Recruitment is healthy and the IRES-8 team hope to increase this number before the end of the project in September 2018.

First networking meeting was held in Croatia in October 2016 (Year 2 reporting period). It was successfully organised and well attended by both EU and China partners as well as students and some Croatian industries. A lecture workshop was held by UNIZG-FER for the MSc students (potential PhD researchers) to introduce the IRES-8 project. The workshop was well attended and helped raise interests to other researchers and provided project promotion. A project meeting was held as a part of the programme of the national CIGRE conference, which provided an opportunity to establish connection with the local industry.
Second networking meeting, “IRES-8: an Opportunity for PhD students and Companies working within the Smart Energy sector”, was held in Bologna in October 2017.  The event was well planned and held. The IRES-8 project’s objectives, benefits and experience from former students are shared to the main Italian/International players of the Energy sector and who might be interested in this project.
